About the studio
Two Practitioners Who Got Tired of Vague SEO Promises

Where the studio came from
Mercer & Whitaker was founded in Oradea in 2018 by two SEO practitioners who had spent years working inside digital agencies and growing frustrated with the industry's tendency to report on activity rather than outcomes. The studio started with a single client — a Romanian e-commerce retailer with 12,000 indexed pages and a crawl architecture that was invisibly suppressing over 40% of its product pages. Fixing that architecture took six weeks and moved the client's primary category pages from positions 18–25 to positions 4–9. That first project defined the approach we've followed ever since: start with the technical foundation, layer keyword intent on top, and only then invest in content and links. Over the following six years, we've delivered audits and ongoing SEO management for more than 130 domains — from solo consultants building a local service presence in Bihor County to mid-sized SaaS companies targeting English-language audiences across Western Europe. The studio has stayed deliberately small: two senior consultants and a rotating network of specialist collaborators for content writing and outreach. That means every client engagement is led directly by one of the two principals — not handed to a junior account manager three weeks in.
How we actually work — and where we stop
Our process follows four stages regardless of project size. First, a crawl-and-index audit that establishes the current technical baseline and surfaces any issues blocking ranking potential. Second, keyword and competitor research scoped to your specific market, producing a topic map and priority ranking. Third, on-page and content optimisation executed against that map, with each change tracked against the pre-optimisation SERP position. Fourth, targeted link-building where the domain-authority gap makes it necessary — not as a default service added to every invoice. We work primarily with the Google Search Console, Screaming Frog, Ahrefs, and Semrush toolset, and we share access to all project data with the client from day one. We do not offer social media management, paid advertising, or website development. We also don't promise that algorithm updates will never affect your rankings — they can and sometimes do, and when that happens we diagnose the cause and adjust strategy rather than pretend the change didn't occur. Honest assessment of what SEO can and cannot control is something we consider non-negotiable.
